My
husband teaches a class online, and there are like 15 people in
the class, and all of them are from everywhere else on the globe
except North America. Right now on his screen there are people from
the UK, from Palestine, from Bosnia. It's so international, it's
nuts. The internet is the great equalizer.

I'm
tired. We moved. Second time in five months. Did the walk-through
of the rental house this morning and didn't have to clean carpets
or replace the sod the dogs dug up looking for moles, but did have
to spackle the holes in the living room we made earthquake-strapping
the bookshelves. So while I expected to pay a good $200 for the
carpets, I instead only spent $3.48 on spackle and a putty knife.
Nice. And I realized I'm oddly sentimental about leaving places,
especially when I think of milestones the baby's made while living
there. Is it good to move once in awhile to keep life fresh and
changes happening? Or better to stick where you are and feel safe
and settled? I don't know, individual choice, I guess. But if I
have to move again in another five months I will jump off the Golden
Gate bridge.

There's
apparently a lice outbreak from Marin County down to Santa Cruz.
To the tune of like 85% of kids in classrooms going home due to
infestation. I don't know about you, but when I was a little kid
if you got lice you lived on the wrong side of the tracks in shameful
conditions, and when you came back to school your head was shaved.
In other news, lice is one illness I've never thought I'd have,
so now it gives me something new to hypochondiacize about. Notice
I skip over wondering if the baby's infested and move right on to
me.

NKOTB
happened. All I'll say is that it was loud, like the loudest concert
I've ever been to in my life. I had my plugs in and still had to
put my fingers against them to shut out the screaming. Also there
were like four men in the whole audience, and two of them were dutiful
husband/boyfriends, and two of them were queeny boy band lovers
who had all the dance moves from 1988 down pat. Also, at this concert
I learned that I have special powers. Jordan Knight appeared onstage
wearing a tight shirt that insinuated some niceness, so I turned
to my friend and said, "I wish Jordan would take his shirt
off," and lo and behold not four minutes later that shirt was
off and all was right in the HP Pavillion for a couple of minutes.
And then the senseless tinnitus-level screaming started again. What
I learned from this concert and crowd of 15,000 people is that there
are lots of musical tastes in the world. Everybody has their own
idea of what's best even if that idea is just so wrong, but it's
nice that people are passionate for what they love.
