ALTHOUGH
I MAY FLIRT WITH ALL KINDS OF DIRT
I
need a vacation after my vacation. You know how they say fish and
guests start to stink after three days? I think we stayed three
days too long and that's how long we were there. I can't go into
the sordid details, so I'll just be thankful for the good parts:
lots of all-you-can-eat sushi, some new music (Gwen Stefani and
The Music), finding beer for my dad that he's been looking for but
can't buy where he lives, my parents driving six hours for a three-hour
dinner with my in-laws, hanging out with a really cool four-year-old
and getting the inspiration for a DVD that'll make me millions,
eating a leftover turkey sandwich with avocado and BACON. I won't
rehash the bad, but let's just say that in the car on the way home
Gray said, "Worst fucking Thanksgiving ever." Indeed.

We
had shitty seats at the Universal TFF show, so I won't talk about
it much. But I got really excited towards the end when Curt Smith
said, "Since we're in LA we're going to take requests from
the audience," and then he pretended to listen to the people
shouting out selections and I thought for sure they'd play something
new and exciting (this is the problem with seeing several live shows
in a row -- the set list is always the same) but no, they just pretended
to take a request and then played what they'd played last time.
Apparently you lucky bastards in Colorado were the only ones on
the whole tour who got to hear "Memories Fade," which
I would have given my eye teeth for.
===
I
just got back from a Cartoon Network art sale at Warner Bros. We
saw Clint Eastwood as we were driving out, and we walked past Lisa
Kudrow's production office but saw no activity. That's the extent
of the celebrity appearances, if Lisa Kudrow's door counts as a
celebrity. All the art was totally overpriced and thus we were disappointed,
not like the good old days when they'd fill half a huge stage with
leftovers from the Warner Bros. stores and price them to move. That
was fun.

My
dance card is filling up with fun potential projects. Through a
friend of a friend, I'm up for a screenwriting job that a guy they
know is paying for out of pocket, which means it will actually be
shot. Could be really fun. Also, there's the new millionaire DVD
idea that'd be really fun and not too complicated to do which I'll
talk more about as it comes together, and today I'm making custom
wine labels for my friend's 40th birthday party this weekend. Forty!
He's much older than anyone else in the group, so I figure he needs
his own wine bottles and the wine that's in them to feel better.
Somehow I've been corralled into bartending, and I like to do it
up strong. So they all better prepare like Richie Cunningham and
drink lots of milk to coat their stomachs beforehand.
